Alaska Raceway Park Movies - 2007 |
Greetings competitors. My name is Dan Roche and I'm a big fan of Alaska Raceway Park. I bought my first digital movie camera last summer (2007) and started taking movies of the races. When it appeared that I might actually know what I was doing I started burning DVDs for some of the racers and to my surprise they were all very happy with the quality of "my playing with my new toy". A few of them have been trying to convince me to share my work with others, which is what prompted this page. The first thing I had to do was run through all of my movies and create an index of who I had on film and how many runs of them I had and on what days. That took a very long time and unfortunately I don't have everyone on tape but I do have over 7 hours of footage. The movies are listed alphabetically by the first name of the driver, with a few exceptions. Sorry if I got your name wrong. I don't know most of you and the only thing I had to go by was what the announcer said, which was very hard to understand sometimes. The numbers after your name are the date of the run followed by the movie clip number. Each movie clip number is usually a burnout and the run except where you see consecutive clip numbers; for example 2007-09-02 066, 2007-09-02 067, 2007-09-02 068 would be only one run broken down into 3 segments. The index is HERE. If the computer you are using does not have a PDF viewer you can see the webpage version HERE. These movies were taken from the stands on the tower side of the strip. For a sample run checkout Sample. The DVD movies are clearer than the sample movie, which was compressed for quicker downloading. How it works. 1. Find your name on the index and add up the number of runs you want on the DVD. Remember that consecutive numbers after the dates are just one run broken down into shorter segments so that 2 or more consecutive numbers are only charged for 1 run. There is no charge for a segment that is marked return.
2. The cost is $10 minimum (includes 2 runs), and $5 for each run after that, up to a maximum of $30. Price includes shipping for 1 DVD via Postal Service in the US. That means that in the example above the cost for the 4 Steve Cook runs would be $20. 3. Since this is a work in progress anything is subject to change. The Post Office has made it expensive and confusing to mail anything besides a standard letter anymore, and I suspect that it will only get worse. 4. When you get your DVD, if it doesn't play correctly, (or at all), just let me know. I have burned a couple hundred of these already and have not had one fail yet, but that just means that I'm due, I guess. If you have a really old DVD player (Is there such a thing?) you might have a problem. If you want your money back, for any reason, just cut the DVD in half with a pair of scissors, put it in a letter size envelope, and mail it to me. I will send you a full refund. If you are interested in a DVD of your runs email me at racemovies@hotmail.com or write me at: Dan Roche, PO Box 3221, Palmer, AK 99645. We will confirm a price and you can send me a check or money order made out to Dan Roche. Sorry but we are not set up to take credit cards yet.
